It can be difficult to find all of these online in the U.K. but I have included links where possible to retailers who sell them.

packmate compression bags Space Saving Compression BagsThese are very useful. Used in conjunction with packing cubes they are a must for any traveller / backpacker who wants to save space by reducing the size of bulky items.

They can be used for anything but do bare in mind that they tend to crease clothes more so than packing cubes. So your best bet for shirts, dresses, trousers and other smart wear that you do not want creased is to use packing folders.

For items like fleeces, jumpers, sleeping bags and other bulky items compression bags are brilliant, and these are roll top compression bags so there is no need for a vacum. As the name suggests you basically roll the compression bag tightly which expels the air and allows a tight seal. This seal keeps out dust, dirt, moisture, odurs etc so they are really very useful.

Great for keeping dirty washing in away from the rest of your clothes or separating wet clothes from dry.

They come in a range of sizes, for example this set of 2 are 60 x 40cm.

Incidentally at the time of writing you could get those 2 storage bags plus this 3 set pack of packing cubesfor under £10 at Amazon. Absolute bargain

Use colour in your packing system – It is up to you how you do it but this is how we like to organise ours:double sided packing cube How to organise your bag with packing cubes, space savers, shoe bags..

  • Red packing cube – Medium single sided packing cube for underwear, socks, nightwear, clothing accessories. Get more if necessary.
  • Space saving bag – Super cheap and ideal for fleeces, jumpers or any other bulky items. We like to take an extra one of these and use it for dirty washing which locks smells and dirt away from other clothes. Read the rest of this entry »

eaglecreekpackingset Why use packing cubes? These are brilliant! Excellent for space saving and organising the insides of your travel luggage. They can help keep clean clothes and dirty clothes separate, keep toiletries, electrical goods all organised and if you buy each in a separate colour they are quick to recognise in your bag (See – How to colour co-ordinate your cubes for the best packing system).

They help minimise wrinkles  (especially if you roll you clothes then put them in the packing cube) on top of this they help you minimise what you take Read the rest of this entry »
